Cowboy Snacks
Western Trail Mix: Children can create their own trail mix.
Provide a variety of goodies......raisins, pretzels, dried fruit,
yogurt covered somethings.....beef jerky even if you have
it....... Give each child a zip lock bag. Have them scoop out
their ingredients and mix in their bag. YUMMY!
Jerky: Ask around your church to find someone with a meat
smoker, who would be willing to make some small jerky
snacks for the children. If possible have a variety of
different jerkeys: beef, turkey, deer, elk, ect for the children
to try.
Other ideas: Pork & Beans, Hot Dogs, Smores, Flapjacks,
Stew, Salsa ect.....
Cattle Brand Match
You can print these and use them for a matching game
or even a file folder game. Teach the children a little
about cattle branding and how each cowboy marks his
cow with a different sign. A cowboy takes care of his
cattle, feeding them, cleaning them, taking care of them.
Show them how God has marked us as his children
and that he will take care of us as well!
(these cattle brand symbols are actually letters in the
Greek Alphabet)

Wanted By God Craft
These are a fun way to display your children's pictures
taken at VBS camp. If you have the means, take a picture
of each child for use in this craft. If you don't have the
means, you could have them draw a picture of
themselves instead.
Materials:
Brown Butcher Pager (Paper Grocery Bag)
Black Construction Paper
Cut each child a piece of Butcher Paper....about letter
size. Have them crinkle it up (squish it, smoosh it, stomp
on it.......ect) Then flatten it out but leave it a bit wrinkled to
appear like an old poster.
Cut a Black piece of Construction Pager into 4 equal
rectangles. Each child glues one rectangle on their
sheet.
Then have them glue their picture on top of the
construction paper. Then let them decorate it with the
western theme printables, and placing the Titles on the
poster.
As a final touch........and only if you have a helper with you,
you can burn the edges of the pages to appear worn and
more western looking. If you don't have a helper you can
show the children how to rip small amounts around the
edges to make it appear this way as well.
These would be great to hang up around your classroom.
Paper Bag Activities:
Before you start you Cowboy VBS, make sure you collect
plenty of paper grocery bags. These are so versatile for
lots of crafts and activities, and can make your theme very
fun for children for not a lot of money.
Paper Bag Cowboy Vests: Cut these down the middle
and a hole for the head and arm and children can
decorate their own Cowboy vests. Show them how to fray
the ends by cutting stripes. Provide sequins, and other
shiny materials for them. (the badges above would work
well too!) Here is an example of how to make the vests,
along with a hat and even some fun chaps and a horse.
Of course with lots of children you'll want to stick to one or
two items to create, but if you have fewer number of
children you might have them make one article of clothing
per day, to end with an entire getup at the end of the VBS
session.
If you want to save time with the cutting and such, you can
get a set of Canvas Cowboy vests from Oriental Trading
co. for a little over $1 a piece.

Campfire Music
Whether you sit around a roaring Campfire or in a circle
in the classroom, you'll definitely want some fun Cowboy
songs to sing with the children.

bands you can make a fun guitar for the children to play
along with during campfire. Click here for instruction
along with some scientific questions.

fun sounds, and even includes some more scientific
aspects to sound. Click here for full instructions.

children to use, these are really simple, and make some
loud noise. Click here for instructions.

little musical instruments with Jar Lids and a little
decoration. Click here for photos and instructions.

Jesus. You can make up movements for each verse
